About KOKOMICA

Kokomica is a character universe born from the quiet in-between moments of life, where emptiness finds meaning, darkness meets humor, and every feeling has its place.

The name Kokomica is a combination of the Japanese word “Kokoro” translating to “Heart” and Spanish word “Mi Casa” translating to “My Home”. Kokomica carries the spirit of home is where the heart is, for the modern wanderer and global soul who finds belonging not in one place, but wherever they feel understood.

Created by Michelle Kok (@hermit.chelle), a Singaporean whose favorite word is “sonder” – the realization that everyone carries a story as vivid and complex as your own; Kokomica exists to offer comfort, smiles, and reflection through its worlds and characters.

From Hollowins’ quiet introspection, to Notots’ existential humor, and Doobu’s gentle resilience, each world reminds us that imperfection is beautiful, and feeling deeply is a strength.

About the artist and founder

Born and raised in Singapore, Michelle Kok (@hermit.chelle) has always enjoyed doodling, sketching on textbooks, notebooks, and tinkering with all sorts of digital media.

While she liked imagining and drawing characters, her initial ambitions were to run a business, leading her to study Business Management and start her first venture at 23.

Over the years, she co-founded several small businesses before stepping down from her latest venture. Feeling her skills and direction no longer aligned, she took time off to slow down and reconnect with her creative side.

What began as casual doodling turned into self-learning various creative pursuits and eventually leading to the creation of Kokomica — a character universe inspired by unspoken emotions, cute dark humor, and introspection on the meaning of existence.

Through Kokomica, Michelle hopes to bring warmth, comfort, and reflection to others — and to remind dreamers that it’s never too late to explore new worlds, even while continuing old ones.
